I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket that I need to spend now.
I want a Barcelona box. Will it need new/different motherboards and
other system parts, as I expect, or is there any chance I can blow
this money on a box now that I can pop a couple quad-core Barcelona's
in later? Is there a little chip I can use in the meantime?

Barcelona 2- and 4-processor chips will be available for AM2 socket motherboards.
If you want a high-performance 4-cpu chip, get a socket F (1207 pins) motherboard
(more expensive).
