Default Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 Compatibility With 2.4 GHz Dual Core Opteron180 - 12-27-2006 , 01:24 AM

Anyone know if this board can work with an Opteron 180?
The Gigabyte web site does not say that it can or cannot and the last BIOS update was 12/26/2005.

Is the any reason it wouldn't work with an Opteron 180? (It will work with a 170 according to the Gigabyte web site).

Thanks -

John

Its a 939 chip so I dont see why not.
Board works fine with X2 3800, A64 3500, and X2 4600.

Check the notes under each bios update and it may tell you that the chip was
added.

At least that's what I find for my K8NS-939. The latest bios adds the Opty
and inbetween memory ratios! Wow. But they forgot the
slow-down-the-cpu-on-overheating adjustment. Oops.

I'm sure you know about the extra settings that are often hidden under ALT +
F1. But in these latest bios they put the settings out in the open.

Thanks Ed -

The problem is that the notes say that some Opterons are supported, but it does not list them all. The notes also say that some are NOT
supported, with the only difference being the processor speed, which is a bit weird.

For instance it will support a Opteron 170, but not a 180 - only difference is speed.

Just got off the phone with Gigabyte tech support and all they could do is read the same web site info I had.

They are calling the "FAE" folks to see if they can tell me if the CPU is supported or not.

I'd really like to find someone who is running a 180 in this board - anyone out there?

- John
