I have an Acer Aspire One 10.1" netbook and would like to get a good
portable/slim USB DVD drive (read/write) to use with it. Can someone
give me a recommendation as to which is a good one to go for?
Also, I am wondering whether there is such as USB DVD portable drive
that also read/write blue ray.
Thanks for any help. |
There are few choices designed for the retail market. Of those, I'd
probably go with LG as their burners seem to be the most tolerant of
variations in media quality.
You can also roll your own with bare, OEM drives from Optiarc etc and a
$20 generic slimline USB external case; however you're on your own
support-wise, and firmware updates are hard to come by because the
manufacturer expects the OEM who bought the drive for installation in
their laptop line to assume that responsibility - and that process is very
inconsistent.
IIRC I've seen Blu-Ray combo burners on eBay - I think from Panasonic -
but these seem to have endless compatability issues.
