Default Casio EX-Z500 problem with USB2.0 ?? - 07-07-2006 , 03:59 PM

I recently bought an EX-Z500 and what a great little camera. But it will
NOT download the pictures at USB2.0. It only works very slow (about
USB1.1 rates) with the provided cradle. Everything else on the PC works
fine through USB2.0, i have tried other USB2.0 ports and still cannot
get it to work at USB2.0. I e-mailes Casio help and they didn't know
what it was and said to send them the camera back (which i refuse to do
since it's only 3 days old !!). I have even tried a different USB cable
with no joy.

The rates at which it downloads at is about 0.9mb / second, my other
cameras download at 3 to 4 mb / sec and considering the card in this
camera is a 2Gb card, it takes a heck of a long time to download !!

Please help ! - Any ideas what i could do here ??

I am using Win XP Pro (SP1), 720RAM, 1.8GHz.

If the camera is a USB 1.1 device, it will always be slow downloading
images.
But 0.9 MB/second is slow even for a USB 1.1 device. Theoretical Max is 1.5
MB/Sec.

USB 2.0 calls a USB 1.1 device "Full Speed".
If it is a USB 2.0 device, it is called "High Speed".

You could get a USB 2.0 card reader for the memory card in the Casio.

Thanks for the info, i actually have a card reader but didn't really
want to keep taking the SD card out each time to download. The EX-Z500
IS USB2.0 compatible (it says on the box !). Just wondered if there was
something i was doing wrong ??

Cheers
Andrew
