I'm not familiar with that model of camera but have you thought of using a
can of contact head cleaner? It is used for cleaning audio controls,
electronic switches and connections, circuit boards, etc. Maybe you could
spray a small amount into the switch to clean out the contact. Most
electronic supply shops would sell it.

If anyone on here has experience removing the case on a Olympus D-500
camera, please fill me in on the details. This camera used to work
great until one of the ALK batteries started to leak. There was some
of that white powder in the battery compartment, which I carefully
cleaned out with q-tips soaked in rubbing alcohol. After that, it
would not work. Oddly enough it was still working with the leaky
battery but kept flashing the weak battery light. Nothing is really
corroded in there, but a little of the alcohol did get into the camera
itself. I dried it well, but no power.....

Then I took a small screwdriver and pressed that little switch under
the disk door. I know the camera would not work without that door
closed, so apparently that switch is not making a good connection.
Pressing on it with the screwdriver makes it work randomly.

Therefore, it looks like I got to take it apart and clean that switch
or replace it (if it could be gotten). If all else fails, I see no
reason not to just bypass it. That makes more sense than tossing the
camera because I know a professional repair will cost as much as a new
camera.

Can anyone point me to a website or describe what to do to open the
case. I see several very small screws, but which ones come out? Will
any springs or whatever come out?

thanks
