Default How to strip certain parts of a DVD? - 01-28-2010 , 01:23 PM

Hi everybody,

I don't know whether or not this is the right newsgroup - if not, I'd
appreciate it very much if someone would point me in the right direction.

A musician I know has asked a company to film one of his performances, and
create a DVD from this recording. The company has created this DVD, but has
added a "do not copy / do not broadcast" text all over the lower part of
the video.

Since then, several people have already asked him to see the movie, so he's
toying with the idea of putting it up on YouTube for everyone to enjoy. But
seeing how it's rather silly to have a "do not copy" notice under your own
video, he wants me to remove it (if possible).

So basically my question is this: is there a way to reauthor this DVD so
that the lower part of the video is deleted? Or is there a way to put a
black label over it?

The master copy itself already contains this label, so there's no use
asking the company to create another DVD without the notice, unfortunately.

Thanks!

Ikke

You can use Avidemux

http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/

Open the .vob file then

If its for youtube (therefore not too long) you can use settings in this
screenshot

adjust the bottom margin value to cover the text

http://www.imageno.com/vh2tzvf6ogx1pic.html

when you save include the file extension (.avi)

for re-authoring as a dvd
use video: DVD (lavc)
audio: copy
format: MPEG-TS (A+V)

when you save include the file extension (.mpg)

Thanks for the information - I'll have a go at it this weekend.

You said "therefor not too long", would this pose a problem? It's a DVD,
made from an entire performance, so it's longer than an hour. Is there a
limit to the length of video files on YouTube?

from the very-very-little I have had to do with youtube an hour could be
a problem.

A year or so ago I converted a VHS videotape clip - about 7 minutes - to
mp4 for someone to upload. Apparently the upload took forever. Maybe
someone here has better info.

Specs recommended by youtube at the time.
frame size 640x480 - 25 fps (here in the UK) - audio 44100Hz 128 kbps.

I would make a small clip, say 5 minutes and try an upload.
