I routinely make backup copies of my DVDs using a combination of DVD Decrypter, FixVTS and DVD Shrink (with Nero as the burn software). Using some combination of those programs, I can almost always make a backup copy that works as well as the original. But I've run into a real brick wall in trying to copy the Da Vinci Code. When I try to just copy it using DVD Shrink, it immediately comes up with errors. That's not all that unusual, since Shrink is an old program and can't handle a lot of the newer encryption protocols. I then try to decrypt and copy it using DVD Decrypter, and it successfully copies over all files except for two VOB files (VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_7.VOB). That's also not all that unusual. I then use FixVTS to repair the VOB files, and I then run the files in DVD Shrink. Now DVD Shrink runs fine and creates compressed and decrypted files which it burns using Nero. Everything runs perfectly, as it usually does. I've used this exact process on many other movies and it has always worked great. The problem is that the resulting DVD copy doesn't play properly. When I try to play it, the menus all come up normally, but when I click on "Play Movie", it jumps well into the movie and then only plays a few minutes and then jumps ahead and repeats the process. I've never seen this happen with any other movie. I have to assume there is some new kind of encryption that both DVD Decrypter and FixVTS can't handle. I tried using ImgBurn, which is kind of a replacement for DVD Decrypter, but I got hard errors that I couldn't get past. At least with DVD Decrypter, you can ignore the errors and keep processing. Finally, I downloaded a 21-day trial of AnyDVD, which I had heard was a good product. Using AnyDVD, I decrypt and copy the files with no problem. No error messages at all! I then take the output files into DVD Shrink, and it runs perfectly until it gets to the 97% mark. Then I get an error saying: DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Out of memory. Not enough storage is available to process this command My computer has plenty of disc and plenty of memory, so I am at a complete loss as to what this error message means. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can resolve this problem and create a backup copy of the DaVinci Code? |

Hi Rick, try this: use AnyDVD only to log the DVD but not for ripping, then use DVDShrink to read direct from the dvd-drive good luck trixM |
