I am in market for digital cam corders and Have following questions
regarding DVD Camcorders. Will appreciate your inputs.
1) How bad/good(noticable) are seek time delays.. e.g. I took few
minutes of video then either switched off the camcorder or reviewing
the video in playback mode. How long DVD players takes find the next
recording position? How long are these delays in SONY/ Canon brands?
Is there any other negatives of DVD players besides compatibilty on
normal DVD players etc?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Remember If you want "mtv music video" quailty you will spend $3,000+
on a camcorder.. Cannon Series is the favorite and I agree..
I had the same questions.. Ended Up buying a Sony HDR-HC3 ($1,500
best buy)..
It's a HD 1080i Recording.. Great Quailty.. Very good seek times
however it's best to buy the external miniDV Player ($5,000).
Saves the Rollers in the camcorder..
you have to play the video on the camcorder with firewire attached
to get the video off.
And it does reencode on the fly to DV quality from HDV. You can
dump the HDV to disk however firewire cannot dump that much
data at one time.. And besides.. DVD is 720x480.. You will
have to reencode to put it on a dvd anyway so you are going
to lose a little resolution.
I have noticed with the HDR-HC3 when you pan the camera
very quickly the tape cannot focus fast enough and you will
get artifacts. Other than that.. great camera..
