Default Best way to edit commercials out ? - 12-23-2005 , 09:57 AM

Hi I have only just tried to make DVDs from my recorded TV programmes made
using a capture card and WinDVR3, I can make the DVD using Nero 6 , Arksoft
ShowBiz (oem with the card) or DivxtoDVD, but I want to cut the adverts out,
no matter how I try I have not yet succeeded, whets the best software for a
beginner to do this and is it done by cutting the adverts out or cutting the
movie out and rejoining the parts?

Sorry to be simple
Peter

Many of us would agree that www.VideoReDo.com is
a great MPEG cut editor, and provides for both editing
approaches you mention. For DVD creation having small
clips is usually a benefit and easily dealt with as a part of the
authoring process. Cutting out commercials leaves five or
six excellent "chapter" points as most authoring programs
will automatically place chapter points at the start of any
clips added to a title. So you might not want to rejoin the
clips after removing the commercials.

Luck;
Ken

Total agreement on all of Ken's points.

I now use VideoReDo in "Scene" mode; as I insert each scene, I make a
note of the total duration, which gives me a list of where the picture
cuts occur.

Then I author a DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author, and use the "Chapter cut
edit" facility to insert chapter marks at the noted points (and
sometimes a few other places - or even leaving some out - to even up
the segment lengths).

I've actually found it quicker to do this than to add individually
saved programme segments to a "track" in TDA. Besides that, I've found
that when joining segments together in a "track", there's usually a
glitch where the join occurs when replaying the authored DVD.

Maybe that's a feature of my DVD writers and/or DVD player, but I've
found that I get better results by making one continuous edited file
using VideoReDo and then putting in the chapter marks manually in TDA.

I've used about half a dozen different editing and authoring
applications, and I've found that this combination of VideoReDo and
TDA works best.

Thanks, this is much much better, I could use this package straight away,
wished I had asked before rather than struggle with Nero and the like, I
nearly gave up altogether !

Videoredo. Theat cuts the ads out automaticly then you just save the
file and you have your video with no ads

Well thats how its supposed to work.

I use the manual way.
