I'm trying to capture a scene from a movie dvd in its standard
format. That
is to say it's not a mpeg or dvr-ms. Is there a way to extract
and record
only a portion of the movie so that I can record it on dvd-r?

thanks

If you are only going to do this once, for one or a few clips,
I'd strongly suggest "DVD Shrink" (already mentioned by Rab) as
the tool for you. Recognizing that it will only cut on an I
frame (meaning roughly 1/15 to 1/2 second of accuracy) it is
simple to use, free of charge, and produces a DVD compatible
output set which can be burned directly using Nero, if you have
it, or the also free of charge ImgBurn. DVD in, DVD out. No
hassle. No menus. And there are tutorials posted about the
web.
