Until now I had no problems playing DIVX files (on LG RH7500). Now I have a magnificent 4 part series about the expanding universe, burned them on a DVD+R which I wanted to play on the LG. All parts play fine, except part 2. Tested the whole DVD, which is fine. All parts (also part 2) play fine on PC. Burned part 2 on another test disc (DVD+RW) which still doesn't play on the LG. It displays "please wait" indefinitely... |
seen it when feeding an unfinalized dvd-RW to a computer DVD drive...

However, LG RH7500 can record both DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W), although I only
use DVD+R(W) media.
Perhaps I forgot to emphasize: this DVD+R (ISO) was made in burner on PC and
of course finilized like all the other hundreds I made succesfully in the
past.
In this case the LG RH7500 HDD/DVD recorder is only mentioned as player
because it is the only device I have to play DIVX on TV.

certified. Eventually I've abandoned each, relying entirely on
PCs to replay captures and conversions to TV.
Some of the problems were:
* not all encoding features are supported by the "certified"
products (for example QPel),
* some players had trouble maintaining a/v synch as I increased
the bit rate I use,
* most players had FF/skip problems.
In the unsupported feature case, I only recall one player
providing a message as to why it would not play the file.
If your files all play on the PC and not all play on the
stand-alone, the answer would seem obvious!

Tonight I got a spark of hope when - in stead of trying to play the DVD - I
tried to copy the file from DVD to HDD in the recorder. This was performed
without problems.
So now I tried again to play the file from harddisk... It gave a few flashes
on the screen and then I got dumped back again into the file menu...
It's a real pain taking care of the right formats which a player "is
supposed to be able to play", and even then being disappointed because of
apparent incompatibilities.
It seems a waste of time fiddling around with this formats shambles...

Maybe it would, but it isn't. I really need to view all these files on TV.
I have no experience making DIVX myself, but I could imagine there is some
way/utility to modify the non-playing file in a simple way without
reencoding the whole contents?
