Default Drive Unable to Reach Speeds Higher Than 1.5/Kb/s - 05-16-2007 , 05:59 PM

Strange problem:

Two drives - Sony DDV1615 (an OEMer sold by newegg)
Sony DW-D18A (same)

Two decryption programs ; DVD Decrypter (version about a year old)
FAB DVD (latest version)

Ripping a commercial DVD. The Sony DDV1615 has started to show a tendency to
run only at 1.5/Kb/s or lower with either program.

Move the same DVD to the Sony DW-D18A and the speeds are 5.0 - 7.0 /Kb/s
with both programs.

What is going on here?

Any ideas? How can I set the speed of the DDV1615.

Thanks!

Marv

IIRC DVD Decrypter automatically slows down the drive if it encounters
read errors.

Thanks - but the drive does this consistantly with a large number of disks.
Looking for something to reset the values of the DVD player in XP registry.

And you're certain that the drive in question is using DMA?

I have to assume so, but I'll check. The new drive replaced one that
crapped out.
Just replaced the old one and powered up again.
