Enjoy,
It should work just great.

That's okay, you're not raining on my parade. It's double the
memory (1
512 stick as opposed to two 128s), and its PC 3200, so odds are good
I can
use it on down the line (I don't buy cutting edge; I stay about a
year back
or more).

I just stuck in the Rosewill and both (GNU) Linux and Windows are
happy
with it. I put the two SDRAM sticks in this here backup box along
with a
third, and Windows 98 is doing fine. Now to check out Fedora Core
2--128
MB wasn't enough, it ran like a--er--dogg under X.

Thanks for your input. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a
*big*
difference between SDRAM and DDR. What makes me happy is we seem to
get
the best deal on the fairly current RAM--I mean, not that I checked
too
heavily, but I think it would have cost me more to buy more SDRAM.
Happily
the K7S5A takes either, and my older K7VMA gets the hand-me-down
SDRAM.

I'm not going for the last utter tweak, but I am attracted to the idea of
moving up from SDRAM to DDR. I'm looking at Rosewill memory. There is a
PC3200 stick for a good price at CAS 3-4-4. On the other hand, there is
also PC2700 with CAS of 2.5-3-3.

I do know that the memory will only operate at PC2100 speed in this board.
i have a K7S5A and tried PC3200 memory (two brand and two size tested on asus
board with memcheck) dont boot.
most people tell it should work but none of them has tried it.
unfortunately a don't have acces to PC2100, PC2700 and xp of different
speed to test and find what is the problem.
official doc tell PC3200 is not supported but i have to check sis735 spec.

Your PSU may not be powerful enough. I couldn't get my K7S5a Pro to
boot with PC3200 memory, and the most likely cause was that my PSU only
has 175 watts on the 3.3v and 5v rails. I'm going to pick up a 500w
supply at Cals tomorrow, I'm fairly certain it should fix my boot issue.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Just to give you a data point, my
Rosewill 512MB stick of PC3200 is booting and working just fine on the
K7S5A. I note that someone mentioned your power supply. I have a fairly
decent Antec TruPower 340W in my box. Just switched out the GeForce 2 for
a Radeon 9100, and so far so good. The processor is an XP 1600+.

mine tell 125W 3,3V 14A and 5v 20A.
but i am not sure it is the cause of the problem.
i have a duron with FSB at 100Mhz, clock of K7S5A and
sis chipset are know to not support some combinations
of fsb/memory speed.

The power supply I was using before had 35A on the 5V line, and 20A on
the 3.3V line (if I recall correctly, the one used by memory), and that
wasn't sufficient for 512mb of PC3200 memory. My current one is a 550W
supply with 30A on the 3.3V line, and it's very stable.
