| http://tinyurl.com/2m2h5c wondering if this ram would work with my hp zd8000 laptop and if it was the best I could get? I don't want to run two modules either. I just want one in the comp because I've heard this hp zd8000 had trouble running more than one. Thanks!!! |

I just want one in the comp because I've heard this hp zd8000 had trouble running more than one. Thanks!!! The RAM you selected, is KTH-ZD8000B/1G, which is a DDR2-667 SODIMM. There seems to be a list of specific models associated with KTH-ZD8000B/1G. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...KTH-ZD8000B/1G "409060-001 (HP/Compaq); 414046-001 (HP/Compaq); 431403-001 (HP/Compaq); 432970-001 (HP/Compaq); 434742-001 (HP/Compaq); EM994AA (HP/Compaq); EM994UT (HP/Compaq)" The search results for ZD8000 series on Kingston is here. The modules listed are DDR2-400 or DDR2-533. This is what your computer officially supports, and the retailer you selected, also sells the ZD8000A/1G. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...=8&SysID=21698 Part Number Description Price KTH-ZD8000/256 256MB DDR2-400 Module Get Price KTH-ZD8000/512 512MB DDR2-400 Module Get Price KTH-ZD8000/1G 1GB DDR2-400 Module Get Price KTH-ZD8000A/256 256MB DDR2-533 Module Get Price KTH-ZD8000A/512 512MB DDR2-533 Module Get Price KTH-ZD8000A/1G 1GB DDR2-533 Module Get Price The thing is, the 915 mobile chipset supports DDR2-400 and DDR2-533, and laptops are generally not overclocking platforms. Buying the ZD8000B doesn't make any sense, because you cannot take advantage of DDR2-667 as far as I know - it will only have to slow down to DDR2-533. ftp://download.intel.com/design/mobi...s/30526401.pdf Now, another thing that interest me, is the construction of the modules. It is possible the ZD8000B uses twice as many chips as the ZD8000A. This web site, labels their JPG files for the images, implying they do care to put the correct pictures for the product. Many companies throw any old picture up for the RAM stick, so normally you cannot rely on the picture. (For example, I've seen registered sticks pictured, for the sale of unbuffered RAM. That is how skewed the pictures can get.) Since the JPG files here are labeled to match the product, I assume someone cared to match them. KTH-ZD8000A/1G -- 4 chips shown http://insight.ca/apps/productpresen...107%26S%3D1043 KTH-ZD8000B/1G -- 8 chips shown http://insight.ca/apps/productpresen...107%26S%3D1043 If it was my laptop, I'd buy the ZD8000A/1G, which is DDR2-533. Hey Paul. I just bought that ram from newegg. It should be here Tuesday. I am going to test it for a while and then consider buying another gig of it so I can have 2 gig in my laptop. But I am wondering if so much more ram will make my laptop even hotter than it gets now and I am wondering if I would see any real difference in performance in my laptop with Windows XP on it? I do alot of music editing and map making for my half life games. That mapping sure takes up alot of resources, so I thought more ram would help there. But I have doubts whether this laptop works well with 2 gig of ram. watcha think? |
