Dope.Thermal compound doesn't bond.Thermal pads like AMD uses can be a
little tough to remove, unless you use a little heat like a hair dryer, but
they don't bond either.

As for that Thermal Grease I threw that stuff away and the one
and only time I ever used it I followed the directions (It's not
rocket science) put it on and a couple of weeks later needed to
take out the processor for some reason and couldn't get the fan
off so I kept trying until I got so mad I pulled off the fan, CPU
and ZIFF socket all together and used a screw driver to pry it
apart. Everything still worked. That grease came with the new
fan that time and I heard a lot of people swear it's good stuff
so I used it, but it was bonded like epoxy and I won't ever use
it again.

That was on a AMD 500, a long time ago.

Thanks anyway for the advice.

Am I understanding you properly? You don't use any sort of thermal
compound on your heatsink?

That is correct.
As I said it bonded like epoxy that time so I don't use it.

Do you think I should?

I am willing to listen to advice.

AMD Athlon XP 2900+
Abit KV7-V motherboard

For almost a year the computer had no problems then
suddenly it would shut down after 10 minutes. After
changing the power supply there was no change. The
motherboard had two weeks left on warranty so I got
that and it started shutting down after two minutes making
an ambulance siren sound from the beginning of the
problem.

Tried a new fan. Didn't Help.

I've taken everything out except the processor and fan.
When it boots it beeps, the screen shows text of booting
then beeps again, does nothing for a few seconds, beeps
again then shuts down blasting the siren sound. It only
runs for 15 seconds now.

Is there any hope for this processor?

Where is the best place to get another processor? Lowest Price?

I've been trying to get someone to test the processor but no one
has a motherboard this processor will work on.

Thanks From
