Default overclocked 4400 x2 need some advice - 01-06-2006 , 05:44 PM

Hi all,

Have installed my new a64 4400 + stock 2.2ghz @ 1.4v have now slowly clocked
up to:

260 x 10 = 2600mhz - HTT x 4 ram 2.5-4-4-8

Everything (almost!) is running stable but a couple of applications do not
start up such as sisandra lite and reg cleaner - any ideas?

I'm using xp pro sp2 - did not reinstall since new cpu installed

tia all

Is there a way to see both cpus working?

Task Manager, ctrl-alt-delete

the second processor may not be active, though, if your original install
put in the non-SMP kernel.

hi

run prime to verify stable state! amd cool'n'quiet driver is DIFFERENT for single and x2!!!

notice that some programs don't like x2 cpu's very much and must be run with affinity set to
one cpu. also some speed related probs are from the way 2 independent cpu update some
internal timers in xp. (kb896256)

Can you pls. provide a bit more detail about how to ensure Windows XP is
properly set-up for a X2 CPU.

My PC came pre-installed with Windows so it would be nice to check if the
retailer used the correct hard-disk image file for X2 CPU's, instead of a
generic one for all AMD 64 bit processors.

(As a rough check, I've just run Task Manager - it shows two CPU load
graphs, but they are very similar (not quite identical, but almost so)).

good! (two not cloned graph = two independent cpu)

check amd for proper x2 cool'n'quiet driver

I just read somewhere that some applicastions don't run properly on dual
core unless they are set to run with affinity for one processor. Don't know
if this is done in bios though. Just something I read.

I have run a dual amd a7m266-d with a pair of bartons for several years and
"never" had a problem running anything. A lot of software only runs on one
processor though but never any issues.
