I don't think you'll find many people with a Dell in this NG. You need to
find out what MB it uses and then see if you can find a compatable bios.

Look for the clockgen chip on the motherboard. Usually it
is a dual-in-line package (pins on two sides of the chip
only). But as we cannot usually find pictures of Dell
motherboards on the Internet, it is pretty hard to tell
what chip is being used. And the chip probably cannot
be enumerated with software. (It is probably sitting on
the SMBUS, but I don't know if there is a reliable way of
telling what it is.) So a visual check is the
way to find it. Then you can go looking to see if a
clockgen program is available.

If you go here:

http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php

there is a list of clockgen chip numbers, on the left of the
web page. The ICS clockgen chips are pretty popular. Data
on the ICS clockgen chips is available at www.icst.com/pdf ,
and there are a ton of different models.

Thanks - its not obvious to see. I was actually asking on behalf of a
colleague who has mentioned the ram is fixed at 333mhz nut supports 400mhz
and wanted some slight overclock and ram running at 400mhz - neither of
which are possible with the dell I feel. Thanks for advice.

right! Can't believe some people, they're in the wrong but just can't accept
the fact - mind you, he got a Dell so I guess that says everything.

Heh. And he's resorted to the old "I have a friend who....." routine. Won't
even own up to having the Dell.

Hopefully to end the tiresome tirade of nonsense - Yes striaght down the
line it is not an amd cpu I posted about but if you look through the group
there are many threads not amd related. I have posted here on many
occasions ref my system detailed below. What is annoying are individuals
like yourselves who take away any pleasure from posting to groups because if
it does not fit what they feel is right and correct they flame. Get a life,
try getting out make more and make some friends even if they were sillier
enough to be from Dell! BTW don't mind being called a f**king p***k -
something you've yet to use. Have a great day.

So you admit you posted in the wrong group then? In that case why bother
writing any more nonsense? Personally I expect to read about AMD related
stuff in an AMD group but I guess I'm just old-fashioned like that.

So you're an idiot frequently?

It's not me that makes the decision, it is a Usenet thing. If you don't like
it, then get it changed.

Already have one, and plenty of friends too - thankfully none of them are as
stupid or pig-headed as you.

Having one hanging from your forehead is not a good thing however.
