Thanks in advance for the advice d At the very least, you have to give us some hints. What is the exact model number of the HP computer ? Does the motherboard of the computer have an identifying part number or name printed on it in white letters ? Many HP motherboards will be manufactured as an OEM board by a well-known motherboard manufacturer. Information like that, would make it easier to search for the answer on www.hp.com . Paul |

The presence of microcode is necessary but not sufficient to guarantee success. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...tem=pv-28134-6 I downloaded the sp26646.exe BIOS update. When I double click on it, there is a temporary directory created on my C drive. In there, is a 512KB file "0315.ROM", which is the BIOS update. Using "mmtool.exe", I extracted the microcode module from the BIOS. Likely the N0 stepping, if that is still sold at retail. You can find 500 and 600 series processors under the Pentium4 section of this page, and look up more different models: http://processorfinder.intel.com Does the computer enclosure have enough cooling for a higher power processor ? That is probably the reason that HP does not want you to use a faster processor. If you have a 3GHz processor already, and have overclocked it, a new processor is not going to offer too much performance improvement. Paul |
