Default 19' LCD Recommendations - 10-08-2005 , 04:57 AM

Hi,
I am interested in purchasing a 19' LCD screen to use with my new
computer. I am eying two LCD models

1) Dell UltraSharp 1905FP
2) Viewsonic VX924

That being said, I would like a simple LCD (no speakers or anything
fancy) for use for day-to-day purposes: some business apps, DVD, games,
etc.

Can anyone give recommendations for eigther of the two models.

Thank you,
george

I add to the list the: SAMSUNG 915N-Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor

If anyone could comment on the following three models it would be
great. I read both the PCWorld and CNet reviews, they do not rank
either of the monitors listed as eigther being great. Some are good on
graphics, some on text, or average on others, the La Crie LCD are
ranked much better, but they are expensive. Same goes for the Sony
LCDs.

My price range is $320-400 when ordered online.

Any feedback is appreciated.

kind regards,
george

The Samsung 915N has a 25ms response time. It's an older model. The 915 II
has an 8ms response time with analog only input. The 913V II or the 940B may
also be of interest to you.

I have the 930B, with analog and DVI inputs. To my eyes, it's the best
monitor I've owned.

I bought the Samsung 930B for my wife a few weeks ago and she loves it.
Simple monitor, great reviews, and looks great.

I'm in the same boat. I did a lot of LCD research in the past two months -
despite how frustrating it is to get a good simple review of models (I think
it might be because there are so many out there - models and manufacturers).

Anywho, I asked in some other newsgroups, the amount of praise for the
Samsung 930B was astonishing. So now I'm going to go and get me one of
those - tomorrow.

And btw, the cNet lady that reviewed the 930B - ?!?!?!?! She didn't talk at
all about the monitor itself, just crapped on about its aesthetic appeal...I
don't know if she was meant to be appealing to people who know NOTHING about
computers, or if it should be taken as an insult to female computer
users...man I will never trust cNet's editors ever again (not that I ever
did before tho, lol). Anyway, the customer reviews for the 930B at cNet all
rave about it as well.

Enjoy your 930B. I've had one for several months now and I am well
pleased with it.

I got a DCL DCL9A from TigerDirect a couple of weeks ago. As of a few
minutes ago the price was $219 USD (after rebate). Its VERY nice. As
shipped, the display was so bright I almost needed shades to protect my
eyes while I turned it down. Excellent color and sharp as a tack. Only
problem was I had to go into Mandrake and set the monitor to "1024x768 flat
panel". Ordered it Wednesday PM, delivered Monday AM.

I checked a bit of the specs on the Dell, it has 20 or 25ns rate, which
is a bit slow by today's standard. It also uses Samsung screen, which
is ranked very highly. However, today there are better peformance LCDs
out there.

The 930b I cannot find anymore, but perhaps the 8ns 940? I think this
one fits almost perfectly. I saw in person the vx924 viewsonic with the
3ns rate. However, I have one old Viewsonic, and I am not too pleased,
I had to send them two times for repair, could not get them to sync.

The 930B may be replaced by the 930BF...or it might be an Australian only
model, I'm not sure. All I know is I couldn't find the 930B, only the 930BF,
which has a faster response time (4MS) and a different control panel (I
assume from all the whingers that couldn't use the buttons).
