Default Annoying mouse problem - 07-14-2006 , 04:47 PM

My trackball, a Microsoft Optical 1.0 keeps suddenly stops working,
normally when the mouse has not been touched for a few minutes.

I will go off for a few minutes when I come back and the pointer will
be frozen on the screen. If I unplug the mouse and plug it back in
then will will start working most of the time for a short time. It is
probably not a problem with trackball since I have 2 identical
trackballs and they both display the same problems and they are both
fine on another computer.

I don't think it is a port problem since the problems 2 different USB
ports and through the PS2 port with an adapter.

I have reinstalled the Nforce2 driver which made
no difference and the mouse drivers which worked for a few weeks but
the problem reappeared.

A no-name PS2 optical mouse seemed to work fine for a few days that I
tried it

I would like to try and track down the problem without re-installing
if at all possible.

I saw in one posting:

"Device Manager -> USB Controller -> USB Root Hub ->
Properties -> Power Management , and unchecked the box to
allow the computer to turn off the device to save power"

I don't know if that is your problem, but if you don't get another
suggestion, play around with your Power Management setting.

Didn't work, I gave up and re-installed and still no joy, I'm
wondering if the heat has something to do with it, been getting hotter
and hotter and the problem has been getting worse and worse and
thinking about it I have been getting HD problems as well, I wonder if
the northbridge/southbridge is overheating? the CPU seems to be fine
but perhaps the NB fan is overheating?
