Vista comes on a DVD, requiring a bootable DVD drive. How is that done for a new build? If I install a DVD drive, say Lite-On or LG, and set bios to boot from CD-ROM drive, will it be able to read and boot from the DVD that VISTA is on? |

The procedure is identical as that used for a CD-ROM. Even the technical details are identical to quite a low level so there are no exceptions waiting to catch you out. I haven't played with Vista yet. The disks are lying around but I'll leave someone else to do Microsoft's beta testing ;-). However I'd expect there still to be a option to create a set of boot floppies from the DVD in any case - these have been invaluable to me in the past with SCSI systems that didn't support CD booting. |

Thanks. I asked because I have a copy of Vista Release Candidate 1 on a DVD. I put it in a new build, but just get errors about unable to boot from it. So I put in a copy of XP, it installed ok.(can't activate it cause it's already on my main comp) Vista Release Candidate 2 is out, but closed now. I guess I'll have to wait and buy a real copy. |

When you made your DVD, you made it with software that could handle ISO images? It handles ISO and the file extension on DVD is .ISO. Can you view a bunch of files on it in XP, or just one large file? I don't know, I'll look. What should it be? Why do you suppose that Vista RTM will install without errors on a system where you get errors installing Vista RC1? Because I'm not sure how good my RC1 disc is, or how good RC1 was. You may wish to check your system... I did. http://www.seerinc.com/images/pigchip.jpg http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...r/default.mspx And before buying Vista RTM, there is hope that there will be a Vista trial versioan available for download so you can check the compatibility of your pc ... I won't be upgrading, I'm going to install a bigger hard drive and do |

Good luck: Thanks! http://www.seerinc.com/images/pigchip.jpg rOy |

Should be a bunch of files and folders, not just one big one. Looks like one big file with a .iso extension. Not right?
