Default I need to plug in another serial drive to my system - 05-16-2007 , 01:12 PM

I need to work on a serial drive from another computer with
my system. When I plug it in (sata drive), my computer won't
start because it is seeing the new drive as the OS drive. It does
have an OS on it but it is the wrong drive. I don't want to boot
from that drive.

How do I control this???

Thanks much!!!!

Enter the BIOS. (On some systems, you press the Delete key at
startup. Check the screen during POST, as it may tell you on
the screen, what key to press.)

On some of my computers here, as soon as you change the drive
configuration, it screws up the boot order. What I have to do,
is visit the section of the BIOS that controls the boot order.
Go into the list of hard drives, and select my "normal" boot
drive, as the one to boot from. If the hard drive config
changes again (unplugged the new drive), I have to go into
the BIOS and do it again. Don't forget to select Save and Exit
after entering the changes.

There are some other options, but try that first.

In general the easiest way is to swap the physical positions of the
drives.

You've never used SATA, have you? There is no master/slave jumpering
anymore.

Default Fixed! Thanks - 05-16-2007 , 03:12 PM

I just swapped physical locations. Thanks for that
simple and elegant solution. I did have to also go
into bios and "mess" with the harddrives. Not sure
what I did there, I couldn't find a place to make one
the boot. But whatever, it worked on the third boot.

Thanks again!!!!!
