Default don5408's unofficial aptiva site - 04-06-2009 , 07:18 AM

Wow, this site died Oct 2008 and I didn't even notice until now. I
guess AOL pulled the plug to their webspace.

And I didn't even know that Don had bought the aptivasupport.com
domain. A few of his pages still live on, such as
http://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/tbmain.html

I still went back to Don's site every once in awhile. I hated to see it
go. I wonder if Don will try to rebuild any of it. It doesn't look
like many people with web sites there are very happy either. Sounds
like they just closed up with no warning.

I don't see Don bothering, since there would probably be little
interest. If the forum there was still going, I could see a better
chance. I wonder what Don's doing now.

Is there still an Aptiva forum going? The last I recall was that
Personal Confuser site.

Yea, you're probably right. Not too many Aptivas running anymore. The
only Aptiva forum I know of is the Personal Confuser site. Not many
questions there about Aptivas any more. Don did have a great site and
forum. I know I learned a lot.

Are you saying that your Aptiva is in your car? I've had 3 Aptivas and
they were great systems. I never had a problem with any of them.

My Aptiva has been assigned music duty in my car. It is still the best
MP3 player I have found when coupled to (DOS) MPXPLAY.
It is a numeric pad interface that allows calling up songs by number.

I can't say I've ever heard of somebody doing that. Quite the unique
use for the Aptiva.

Yup, it is one on the short desk tops with the riser card so it sits
well on the deck under the folded down back seat top (seat bottom
removed)
Coupled with a sub woofer system and all running on a 200w inverter I
get big sound. I have a keypad mounted on the console hump and no
monitor. I have been running similar systems in my cars for close to a
decade. I would buy a regular MP3 player if I could find one with as
good an interface as MPXPLAY.

Sounds like you will be keeping those computers in your vehicles. I
can't see anyone making a MP3 player that works with a number pad.

One in my car, one in my truck. I will quit and buy an MP3 player when
they sell me one that runs from a num pad. Something I can use without
taking my eyes off the road.
I always thought an MP3 player in a good sized pocket calculator case
was the perfect format.
