Default Monitor Dead? - 04-18-2006 , 10:03 PM

My Dad's Aptiva (2158-240) is running fine, but his monitor went black
today. Tried pulling power cord out and plugging back in and tried
re-powering it on. Still dark. Power LED still green when powered on so
I know power's getting to the monitor.

Any suggestions? I live 1200 miles away from him so I can't really see
what's happening. It's 8 years old ... I wonder whether it's likely that
the monitor just blew ... or whether there is something else wrong. He
claims he didn't do anything to cause it.

To add insult, Lenovo no longer has support for this model on their
website so I can't even access any pubs or troubleshooting info.

Thanks for any insight.

Larry E.

Larry,

If possible, have him try another monitor on the system. Being it's 8
years old, it may just be that the monitor has gone bad. Also, I have
the 2158 Hardware Maintenance Manual downloaded. I grabbed as many as I
could find when IBM started pulling them. I could email it to you want.
It's rather large, 5633KB.

Actually ... strange ... it started working again after not working for
about a day. I don't know what's going on. Nothing in terms of the video
drivers has been changed and he claims the cables are all solidly
connected and no pins are bent. The LED indicator was solid green when
this problem occurred, so the power is getting in. I told him it may
just be that the thing is beginning to falter ... and is going to work
inconsistently.

I am trying to find him someone who has a similar monitor from an old
system that they don't use anymore. Thanks.

Yea, it may be time to start watching the sales or classifieds for a spare.
