Default Need advice on graphics card - 02-18-2007 , 12:51 AM

I have a Aptiva 2170-276 that my nephews and nieces use for internet
surfing, internet game playing, and myspace. I want to make their
internet surfing a bit better, so I am getting them more memory and
maybe a new graphics card.

So, does anyone have any suggestions about which card I should get
considering the limitations of the machine.

Current Configuration:
Windows 98
Sis 530 8MB (gaphics card)
AMD K6-2 3D-Now 475Mhz (processor)
192MB RAM (soon to be 256MB)

I should mention that I'm not looking for anything new and cool (which
is not possible with 475mhz) . I just want a card that is a good match
for the system, so I can boost the graphics for the kids internet
games and video (as much as it can be boosted on such an old unit).
I'll probably by it used off of ebay, so an older card is fine.

ATI and VooDoo cards are ones that I remember working in the old
Aptivas. I actually put an ATI card in my 2176 without any problems.
Sorry, I can't remember the model number. Any ways, if you can find one
of those, I think you'll be okay.

I went looking around and it looks like I could get a ATI Rage Pro 128
(32MB) card from tigerdirect for $20. Would that be a good fit with
the system?

Well, seeing that I picked up an ATI Radeon 9250
128MB PCI brand new from Office Depot for
$20CAD + tax ... It was their housebrand,
Maddog Multimedia. Mind you, this was just before
Christmas, and it was a clearance item.

Looks like you got a good deal. =)
The card is already in the mail and I don't have time to go out and
hunt one down anyway, so I'll just stick with it.
