Default pointing device error -- ?dying Aptiva? (2159-S90) - 06-01-2004 , 09:31 PM

Hi,
2159-S90 >7 y/o
200MMX, 96 MB RAM; master 30 gb (ezBIOS); slave 6.4 gb
nothing added or removed (neither h/w or s/w)
(-'ve for worms / virus)
more and more often it boots to the bios with a 8603 pointing device
error
it's not present in the BIOS but after exiting (with no changes) it
boots into windows(95B) with the mouse
Just wonder if this might be the beginning of the end

(fwiw, it has a chronic *habit* (for several days in a row) of booting
into the BIOS (notMyChoice) with either a 1780 or 1781 (hd 0 or hd 1
error))
THANKS!

Sounds like it could be the beginning of the end for your hd or motherboard -
Which does not translate to a useless machine.
Maybe your due to reinstall OS.

Tanya,

Have you checked all the cable connections to make sure they are
tight? Have you cleaned out the inside lately? I would check all cables
to all drives and your mouse. I would also clean out the inside with
compressed air, if it's dusty in there. You may also want to have the
battery checked. Just a couple things to check before declaring it on the
way out.
You may also want to try these sites for additional help:

Hi Mike,
Thank you for replying
I have not checked / cleaned the inside lately and will
The battery could be going and I'll change it
(Perhaps it *forgets* that it is supposed to have a mouse)

Thanks also for the Web sites / message boards
sincerely
Tanya
(it does run <relatively> well once in Windows)
