Talking printer cable - 06-15-2006 , 02:30 PM

The youth department at our church received an Aptiva Model 2144 with a monitor and HP inkjet printer. We can't get the printer to print or the PC to even recongnize the HP. We are using a IEEE 1284 cable, the PC end plugs in just fine to the I/O port but the screw hold down holes don't match. Does this Aptiva take a different printer cable or is there a gender changer that we must use? Would appreciate help from any of you.

The cable you have should work. A couple things to check. Check for
bent pins on the cable, both ends. Make sure the connection is tight on
both ends. Strange that the screw down holes don't match, they should.
Next, I would check to make sure that the printer software is loaded.
If not, and you don't have the disk, you should be able to get those
files from the HP site. What model of printer do you have? You may not
know this, but was it working when they gave it to you?

Talking printer problem - 06-16-2006 , 08:13 AM

Hi,

The printer works just fine with my home pc on win xp. It's an HP 710 and we have the drivers, but I have now discovered that the Aptiva will not load them. I'll get back to you later after I go into the bios and see if the I/O port is configured. I might need to bring the rascal home and work on it.

Thanks Minnisota Mike, we never could get the proper cable to make the printer work. Another member found an HP LaserJet 1100 he wasn't using and gave that to us. He had the cable and software drivers. We hooked it up, installed the software and GREAT, it works super.
