Default Reformatting my computer? - 07-02-2003 , 12:45 AM

Ok, so I have an Aptiva 2137-E26 and it was originally a Win 95, but I
put Win 98 on it myself.
Well I want to wipe my hard drive of everything on it and put Win 98
back on. I also want to add more memory to it. Now how do I go about
doing all this?

i recommend installing win98 using the 98lite
installer @ http://www.litepc.com/preview.html

i generally choose "chubby" without installing
IE. this way, i can install a newer version of
IE/OE afterwards.

Look here for instructions: http://members.aol.com/don5408/win98/
I have used those several times for my systems. Follow the instructions
for a clean install. For memory, you have a maximum of 256MB for that
system. Each DIMM chip can be a maximum of 128MB. Just pull the old ones
out and insert the new. You can look at Crucial.com for memory. You can
also catch pretty good sales at Best Buy, Staples, etc. for you're not in
a big hurry.

Dear Kim;
Boot with a Boot Floppy, when you get the prompt activate "With CD
Support" At the A:\> prompt type format c: Insert the 98 disk in
the CD Drive and while still at the A:\> prompt type setup and you
are on the road.
You will have to remove the power supply to get to the memory slots. You
should check with IBM or a reputable vendor as to what type memory you
need. Good luck.

If you only have a 98 Upgrade CD, you will need
to have the Win95 CD handy as you will be
prompted for it when you install. If you don't
have such a CD, look for all the original Win95
files in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs. Copy these
files to another partition or burn them to a CD
and I think this will work to satisfy 98's prompting.

You may also want to check out my comments
in regards to 98lite on some of the other current
threads here.
