floating point error on voyetra

Aptiva 2137 E51
When recording wave files occasionally crashes with floating point
error divide by zero.

Have recently done clean install of win98, Remember having this
problem when I first had the Aptiva and discovering a simple fix but
cannot remember what it was.

Any help would be much appreciated !!
