Skype on Aptiva problem -

Hi,
I only use my vintaged IBM Aptiva Computer (Windows 98, AMD K6-2 450
Hz)for basic tasks such as email, word processing and web browsing. Last
week, at an old friend's request, I downloaded and installed the Skype's
phone program. On carrying out the "Test Call" at Skype, I could not
record my own voice. The recorded message told me that "there is
something wrong with my audio setting".
I have tried to follow Skype's trouble-shoot instructions without much
success (adjusting the audio setting via the Control Panel). But of
course those instructions were for Windows XP and 2000 and not Windows
98. I have also tried googling the discussion forums for pointers with
no joy so far.
Has anyone experienced the same problem and how did you resolve this? I
would be appreciate any guidance/advice.
Thank you.
