Default Upgrading an Aptiva 2159 S90 - 02-04-2005 , 10:57 AM

I'm trying to speed up my 2159. Originally it came with a: Socket 7 / 200
MHz Pentium MMX / 66 MHz (FSB) / 2.8V(VRM)Core Voltage.
Does anybody know the best/fastest CPU upgrade available? K6-2, -2+, -3,
-3+?
I understand there is problem with the core voltage, in that it needs to
be 2.0V with these CPU's. Can the Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) be
changed from 2.8V?
Also, can I use a CPU with a 100MHz (FSB) even though mine is 66MHz?
One last question, I know the IBM # for this System Board is 12H2001, but
does anybody know the true manufacturer? Is it in fact IBM or some other?
Is there a newer board the will bolt in? That sure would seem a lot
simpler!

Thank You!

sleepi,

You may want to take a look at this page:
http://members.aol.com/sentinel84/uas/cpu/

I upgraded my 2176 with the Powerleap K6-2/400 upgrade kit and it worked
good. The only problem is that I got the post 127 error message on boot
up. It's a small problem and one that can not be fixed.

Mike,

Thanks for the great link. Another question... do you recall what Jumpers
you had to mess with and where to set them? JP-2 and/or JP-3 maybe?

Thank again...

Sleepi

Sleepi,

You're welcome. I didn't have to move any jumpers when I installed the
upgrade. They were already set to the 66 mark. Your hardware manual
can found here if you want to check the settings:
