Default keyboard not detected on boot - 05-05-2007 , 11:17 PM

I finally got ahold of an old IBM Model M. When I connected it to a PS/2-
USB converter and plugged it in it worked fine, but when I boot with only
the Model M connected I get a no keyboard detected error from the BIOS
and booting halts.

How do I fix this?

You have to enable USB devices in the BIOS in most computers.
Usually something about legacy USB devices.

Did that. I also changed the error halting to all but keybaord. The
keyboard isn't recognized until the OS is booted. Lilo doesn't even see
it, which sucks since I need to boot a different than the default kernel.

It's a pretty old machine. Could it be that the BIOS just isn't able to
recognize a USB keyboard. I don't have an actual USB keyboard to test it
with.

What sort of machine is it? If it's that old doesn't it have PS2 ports?

It does, but for reasons that are too boring to go into, I don't want to
use them.
