Default microphone input defective? - 11-19-2005 , 02:39 PM

Hi,
I justed plugged a mic into my Thinkpad 600E for the first time in 6
years. But I can't hear any mic sound. When I unplugged it I was almost
deafened by strange and shrill beep sounds, like a sharp feedback. Now I
have to disable the mic input so I won't be disturbed by that horrible
noise.
Does anyone know how to fix that? Would contact spray help or would it
rather destroy it even more? Is it possible to exchange the mic input?
Any advice is much appeciated!

Regards,
Marco

Seems to be the internal microphone works. Just reduce its amplification
settings or switch it off. My guess is you tuned the microphone input
a) on b) to maximum amplification. The input automatically switches
over to the internal microphine when the external one is disconnected.

My guess is you plugged in the wrong type of microphone. You need
an electret (capacitor) microphone with low-voltage phantom
supply, i.e. a two-connector plug. Besides that the soundcard is not
a seperate unit, i.e. it cannot be repaired. You could use an
USB sound adapter though.

Right. I didn't know it had an internal microphone. I'm glad it was as
easy as that.

Yea, I already looked that up on Ebay. But that was before I found out
that my Thinkpad has an interal mic.
Thanks for your help!
