Default PC constantly restarts - 03-12-2005 , 11:07 PM

This eTOWER PC [500is] [ATX-format] running win98SE 256 MB RAM,
suddenly will not shut off when I go thru normal turn-off procedure.
Instead, the PC imediately reboots showing the ETOWER screen logo. I am
forced to shut off AC power. Do not hear the normal 3 beeps at shut-down
time but the screen does become black just before it reboots.

Two days ago, I reformatted and used the recovery CDROM to reinstall
WIN98SE and it has been running very well up to this afternon. Before
reformatting, shut down was normal.

What can be done to restored normal shut-down?
Is this fault a Power supply or software problem?

Thank you, Dave_S

More close looking shows that during ATTEMPTED shutdown, I hear 3
beeps, screen goes black, green
LED on start/stop switch goes off then immediately turns green again as
the processor starts to REBOOT again.

I did all troubleshooting recommended for win98se shut-down failures.
None of these fixes cured my trouble. Installed the latest Shutdown 2nd
edition patch.
Also did not help.

I sure can use some suggestions to make this PC stop auto rebooting
during shut-down.
It does NOT reboot except when I try to shutdown.

Thanks, Dave_s

If the machine is standard, try a different power supply.
