Default Can't decide which LCD: Dell or Hyundai?? - 04-07-2005 , 08:10 PM

Hey, all.

I'm about to jump onto the LCD monitor bandwagon, and I'm torn between
the Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ and the Dell UltraSharp 1901FP.
Personally, I'm leaning do the Hyundai, but I see many good reviews on
the Dell. I wonder if the Hyundai is just not as 'obvious' a
manufacturer...

I play lots of games, and do some still photo manipulation, but I do
not play movies at all on my PC, so video playback quality is not a
factor.

I know there are better LCDs than both of these out there, but they'd
likely be at a higher price point.

Can anyone help me pick between these two?

Thanks!

DW

Don't you mean the Dell 1905FP? I think the 1901FP is the older and slower
(25ms) model. The 1905FP is rated a little faster (I think 20ms) but nothing
like the Hyundai's 8ms response time. So for gaming I would go for the
Hyundai, unless a slight blurring with the Dell does not bother you. The
Dell however might have better image quality and or color.
The Dell has a 21 day full price refund return policy (less shipping) so
you could buy it and return it if you don't like it and pay for shipping. I
bought a Dell monitor and paid $10.00 shipping, but I decided on another LCD
and returned it. They have you send LCD returns to Louisiana and that cost
me another $33 shipping. So $43 to try it out.
I don't think you will find a retailer with the Hyundai that does not charge
a 15% restocking fee plus shipping, at least in the US anyway.

Thanks for the feedback; just wanted to make sure I wasn't nuts for
looking at the Hyundai.

The Hyundai is one of the fastest LCD's for games right now and had very
good reviews.
Have you read this review?

Viewsonic announced a 4ms LCD, but its not out so who knows if it really is
that fast and when it will actually be out.

I did read the TomsHardware review. Pretty positive.

That Viewsonic is out now, and costs roughly what the Dell costs.

Hm. If Viewsonic is the company that's about to change to a 0 bad pixel
warranty (or maybe that was Samsung), it might be worth looking at as
well...
