configuring a custom res for my lcd tv - and a question of graphics card power.

in a classic case of bolting the stable door after mr horse has done a
runner, here is my question.

my radeon 9800 pro recently bit the dust, so i have replaced it with a x1600
pro - is this comparable to the 9800 - faster even?

secondly, i have my lcd tv connected to the dvi output of the card. the tv
has a res of 1366x768 but of course my resolution settings dont allow me to
choose that.

the 9800 always did - even though the data the tv sent to the graphics card
always claimed (falsely) that the tv could only support 1280x1024.
is there some obvious way i'm missing to tell the card to output 1365 (as
the old one did) by 768? - as i say the radeon 9800 always managed it.....
