Default contrast 1000:1 or 500:1 ? - 03-10-2006 , 01:33 PM

Hi,

Lacie 321 screen is currently classified among the best screen for its
rendering, its ability to restitute the slightest tints, etc., all the more
wierh calibrated with an OPTIX xr colorimeter.
I am looking for such a quality screen to work on my renderings.
But I wonder that it only display a contrast of 500:1 with 10-bit/color
while an eizo flexscan 19" is 1000:1 , bit/color unknow, but probably lower
as its price is only $900 vs much more.

Question: could a lacie compete against anotehr quality screen but showing
a higher contrast ? How does it achieve that ?

At last, there is something that surprised me. To Eizo, some screens at
about $900 work with only 14-bit color (S2410W), or 16 or 18-bit colors
Does it mean that they are unable to manager 24-bit colors and thus to
display 16 millions color on screen ? I think well, but first I am surprised
that such screen are still for sale.

Thanks

Thierry

here is a link speaking of the 14-bit color processing
http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/S2410W/index.asp
I think that I am false to say that it works with 14-bit/color.
Can someone explain me its specs : does it really work in 14 bits/color
instead of 8 ? Is this really a plus vs its competitors, even agianst a
Lacie 321 or a Apple cinema ??

Thanks
Thierry
