Default DX9 and choosing a graphic card - 09-07-2003 , 11:27 AM

The following two things are very clear to me:

1. AGP8X doesn't give any significant performance and is therefore a big
waste of money.
2. 256 MB ram is also unnecessary and doesn't change anything of importance.

I buy a new graphic card every year and therefore my question is:

When does the DX9-based games hit the game scene for real?

This means, should I buy a card with a high 3D mark 2003 score or a high 3D
mark 2001 score, when I know for sure that I'll only have the card for one
year?

Sorry for me bad English.

With current games, yes. I'm not sure that AGP bandwidth improvements
will ever make all that big of a difference, with the huge amount of RAM
that most video cards have now and will have in the future, anyway.

When Half-Life 2 comes out. And a number of the other games that
are currently in the pipeline and nearing completion, like Doom3 in
particular.

Either of the top-end video chips from ATI or nVidia will give you good
DX9 capability, but you may want to wait a few more months, as the next
lineup of chips will be out before Christmas, you can bet. At the very
least,
the new lineup will lower the price of the current cards, once they hit the
streets. Whether you get 128MB or 256MB of RAM on your card, probably
won't make a huge difference at this point.

No problem. You're doing fine.
