Default Faster GPU's - 09-29-2003 , 04:44 PM

Commentary

The newer DX9 compliant video boards run hotter, take up more space, and
faster than ever before. Why can't the GPU core be integrated even more?
Nvidia supposedly is teaming up with IBM for chip fabrication. I propose
the GPU to use the 90nm process and integrate 256megs of ram right on the
die with the core GPU. IBM has state of the art fabrication facilities.
Yeah, the die would be bigger and yields would be lower but the performance
payoff would be high. Demand would be high. People will pay for EXTREME
unadulterated performance. No more ram chips on the pcb hence less heat,
smaller pcb card. The ram could run at the same speed as the core GPU.

AMD just eliminated the memory controller on their latest 64 bit cpu and
integrated it within the cpu, Why? Speed? Intel's new P4 extreme edition
just added 2megs of L3 cache on the die. Why? Speed? I think if Nvidia or
ATI want to maintain market dominance, (I don't care which) radical
engineering is required. I know the people in labs have the brains to do it.
May the best company succeed.

Just my two cents. .

Dave

Let the feeding frenzy begin for market share and total dominion

No brains needed--just tap a few keys and 256 meg of static RAM
cells get added to the mask. And if ATI does it then the guy at nvidia
taps the same few keys and matches their peformance.

Ok, thanks Mr. Clarke

LoL that looks like a PPro =)
