Default LCD monitor taking its time to turn ON - 10-06-2006 , 04:42 PM

Hi,

My NEC 18" LCD monitor (1960NX) is taking longer to turn ON. Let me
explain in more details. I normally turn off the LCD by pressing the
ON/OFF button when I leave for extended time (bed, travel, etc). After
slightly over 3 years of use and now out of its warranty period (what a
coincidence), when I turn the monitor on (with green status light), the
LCD boots like normal and I can see the entire screen change from total
black inactive into active black (monitor is slightly grey) for a second
then it turns back to inactive black while the green status light
remains on. At first, it took me a couple of ON/OFF tries to get the
desktop to show up. But as days passed, it's taking me much longer
(many ON/OFF) trials. Does anyone know what exactly is causing the
problem and how to resolve it?

Note: I tried replacing a 250v 3A fuse as somewhat similarly reported on
devhardware (
http://www.devhardware.com/forums/co...ead-22857.html
) but the problem persists. I have to say there the monitor is working
perfectly once the signal works (no flickering, no loss of color, etc).
So am led to believe some capacitor(s) is/are faulty but am not a
hardware specialist to find out which.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Brian

A quick note: the problem is coming from the LCD monitor and not the
video card or PC since I tried it on other PCs and even a laptop.
