Default Trouble running lcd at 1600x1200 - 11-14-2005 , 06:52 PM

I bought a Viewsonic VX2000 lcd monitor on eBay. This is a 1600x1200
monitor.

I hooked it up with my Windows 2000 system, with an old Number Nine
Revolution IV card, but the image quality is crap. There is a faint
shadow a few millimeters left that's pretty noticeable when viewing text.

I'm not sure whether the monitor is at fault or the video card. I'm
using the D-SUB analog input of the monitor. Does that make a difference?
Would I get better image quality with a newer card with digital
output (the monitor has a DVI-D port)?

If the card is the problem, can someone suggest some inexpensive digital
video cards? I'm not up on these things and don't have time to educate
myself. I don't play games, so I don't need something cooled by liquid
Helium. I just want a very crisp, stable image at 1600x1200 with
reasonable performance. It would be nice to do video capture, so that
would be a plus, but not absolutely necessary. I'm looking for a fairly
cheap card though, say under $100 used.

you could probably get a new ATI for about 50 dollars that will do the
trick, unless there is something wrong with the monitor.

Windows says it's 60 hz. The monitor says it's 61. Perhaps the video
card is not producing a good 60 hz signal and it's screwing up the
image.

I just bought a Samsung 242 mp. I had to download the latest video drivers
and video bios. The computer was setting the vertical to 75 Hz when I set it
to 60 the monitor did not like that at all.

That's the problem with buying used electronics on e-bay. You never
know and usually you're buying bad goods.

That said, before you spend another dime, take your monitor to a
friends house, or friends fathers house! And plug it into something
stout. If it does it there with a newer system, it's the monitor.

I'm very sorry about that...

I know many, MANY people who have been burned buying used stuff on
e-bay. Don't make two mistakes...
