My Dell XPS came with a cheapie video card - Radeon X300 SE.

Just watched the old LCD monitor flicker and die. Am tempted by some
of the cheaper 22-inch monitors flooding the marketplace. Is anybody
out there familiar with the Radeon X300 SE. Is this card capable of
filling the screen at a resolution of 1920x1200?

Bear in my that I have no interest in 3D, in gaming or in video out.
Computer is running XP, with 1.5gb of memory. The monitor will be used
primarly for image editing, word processing and internet browsing.

The X300 SE is the enry level card in that series.It uses some system ram
for caching.Not good.For a large monitor you'll want something better.If you
plan on playing any 3D games you'll be twiddling your thumbs.

i'd bet that his graphics card will do a fine job of providing a 1920x1200
image for normal use.

people I talked to about this say that they wished they had gotten something
for basic 3d games after saying they don't need a gaming card. Things
happen.

It sounds like X300 is the integrated video on that board. If so, then
it's using up some system memory, and video resolution just depends on
how much video memory is allocated to the video portion of it. Since
there's no 3D gaming, then just about any 64M video should do fine for
that resolution.
