Default pcmcia to usb in tp560e - 08-26-2003 , 09:00 AM

Hello,
I am trying to equip an old thinkpad 560e running under W98SE with a
pcmcia-to-usb adapter. I have acquired two different adapters (aten p202
and ) . Although the drivers could be installed without a problem, the
system does not recognize this card (no "new hardware" message, no start of
hardware wizzard, device manager and thinkpad configuration program report
empty slot). Other cards (modem card, ethernet card) work fine. It seems
that the usb-adapters cannot be properly inserted into the pcmcia-slot since
they are equipped with small (golden) elevations on the side of the
connectors. I suspect that this has to do with the proper voltage. The TP
560E provides 5v and maybe the new cards accept only 3.3v? Are there any
pcmcia-to-usb cards that would fit into the "old" pcmcia slot (usb 1.1 would
be fine)? Or is there any way to convert/reduce the voltage with some kind
of card interface? I would appreciate any help. Thomas Held

These USB cards are not just lower voltage: they are also 32-bit
CardBus cards and your Thinkpad only supports 16-bit cards.

I haven't heard of a 16-bit USB adapter card.
