Have you opened the box and made sure there are no airflow obstructions near
the power supply, video card, etc. - have you made sure that the CPU cooler
(fan and heatsink) is clean and that there's no dog hair, dust, etc. that
has built up - are all of the airflow openings in the case unobstructed?

@u72g2000cwu.googlegroups.com:

So I'm thinking that either the machine is overheating or that perhaps
the power supply (450Watt) is insufficient.

Maybe both (and perhaps a bit more of the same).

Actually, the PS is likely to be adequate for most purposes.

I have a box in which I installed a monitored temperature control system,
a decade ago and it still has no problem whatsoever with anything. All of
the original drives, peripherals and -other- are still running smoothly
and it is fully populated, with a few additions (including fans).

These turnkey boxes are generally designed to just barely support adequate
cooling for even moderate device usage, especially the drive unit[s].

I also still have a 3x box (malware immune) that networks like a tank! ;-)
