I have Windows XP. At start up my USB keyboard/mouse hub is non
responsive. Yet when I pull it out and re-plug in the USB connector to
the back, the keyboard responds. The keyboard works in the BIOS mode
before windows starts up. Trying a different USB hub on the
motherboard (Gigabyte Triton K7 series, GA-7N400 Pro2 nForce 2
chipset) doesnt seem to make a difference. Any help on this would be
great.

Check at the keyboard vendor's web site whether you need to install its software or driver.

thanks for the input, I tried that idea, but it didnt make a
difference. :/ Any other ideas?

Check your HUB or the BIOS setting for your HUB.
Do your hub need driver. If yes get the updated driver
