Default USB to Serial Adapter Cable - 09-20-2003 , 12:35 PM

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running XP Pro. The laptop has no RS232
serial port so I purchased a USB to RS232 serial cable. When I plug the
cable in, XP recognizes and loads up a HID Device driver - but does not
generate a serial port. I would have expected the device manager to list a
COM5 (typically) serial port. The cable came with no drivers - it says
'All automatic under windows XP'. Needless to say without a COM port I
still can't synch to my PDA....

Thanks for any help
dave

If it's like my port replicator, it lists the serial port as a USB
port. You just have to guess which one.
