Default How to clean inkjet printers - 04-24-2007 , 10:55 AM

I have multiple ink jet printers that have been out of use for several
months. I put new cartridges in them and run them through their various
cleaning routines, but they all print colors poorly, acting as though they
were still all clogged. Is there some way to restore these prints back to
proper service?

Yes, there is!
Are the heads removable? If not you may have a real problem!
Most methods for removable heads involve using distilled water and a
solvent. The solvent is somewhat dependent on the ink used and the type of
head.
Some have used with success--
Windex
Alcohol & distilled water
Solvents specific to aftermarket inks. Some aftermarket inks have tanks
filled with cleaning solution to be used when changing from OEM to non OEM
inks.

I have used lint free paper towels saturated with a cleaning solution and
setting the head down with the nozzles to the saturated towel.
Another method is to use a soft rubber ear syringe to try and suck the old
ink from the clogged nozzles.
A modified version of the same ear syringe might be used to force cleaning
solution thru the head on heads such as some Canon printers use.

I agree with chuck.
I had this prob with my Epson 1290 and 1270.
I was getting fine lines on my prints.
Windex sprayed into the cartridge well and a soaked pad of chux which I
pulled the
carriage back and forth over.
100% results.
Word of caution though.
I once derailed a carriage and it cost a service visit to fix it back in.

Cheers to you
