You are likely seeing a prescan image, used to setup the final scan for
cropping etc.
The next possibility is that the save options are defaulted to a lower
resolution than you would like.
(Not uncommon if it's set for OCR scanning or basic copying)
I believe the photos that you are printing and are acceptable may be a
result of the internal all in one photo copy process, rather than the scan
to file, save, open the saved file, and print cycle thru the PC software.
It sounds to me like you need to become more familiar with the scanning
software that your all in one uses.
Rated scanner resolution --Resolution: up to 1200 x 2400 dpi optical; 19200
dpi enhanced (software)
300 DPI is sufficient for most photo copying, unless you want to enlarge the
photo.
The reviews of this unit were not kind when it came to photo print quality.

I have an HP C4180 All in one printer and a Dell Dimension 9200 pc. When
I
scan images the resulting picture on the monitor is very grainy however
when
I print the pictures they come out fine.
So I can print pictures but cannot (effectively) scan & then keep for
viewing onscreen.
Pictures installed onto the pc from other sources show okay
Any ideas where the conflict may lie please?
