When I am printing a page in the Black/White mode (or Gray mode) on a
CLJ printer which is using CMYK colorants, does the printer use only K
cartridge for this?

There may be some exceptions but I am not aware of them.
You don't mention the model number but there is a test you can try. Many Colour
Laserjets print more quickly in monochrome than in colour, if yours is one of
these does it print at the monochrome speed when printing grayscale? If it does
it is only using the black cartridge.

Hi,

All Color LaserJet printers are different. The newer printers will
only use the black toner when you are printing black and white while
the older printers will use the black toner but then cause the other 3
toners to rotate causing wear/tear to the toners even though it is not
being used.
