Default dirt in printer!! how to clean? - 04-25-2007 , 12:45 PM

I accidentally left my printer door open last night. (Epson Stylus
Color 600) We had a stormy night (and my windows were open).. the
winds blew dirt from my potted plants all over, and most importantly,
into my printer!!!

what can I do to clean it? I don't want to make things worse.
Help!

Thanks,
Jessica

A vacuum cleaner with a flexible tube and nozzle would be
a good start. Not an easy printer to clean inside as getting
the the body cover off is a bit tricky. Don't start shaking it
upside down (if you can help it).
Put it for about a day in a dry place and hopefully any
moisture will evaporate, not too warm a dry place.
There are cans of compressed gas called "Aero Dusters"
but it's debateable whether they might spread debris
around if not skillfully used.
I'd dismantle mine for cleaning as I know how to do it,
but you do need tools and skill, the ribbon cables need to be
treated carefully.
Been out for quite a while and still going strong,
they don't all clog in the 1st 6 mths.

OK, now we have a type of printer to start with.

The SC600 isn't too difficult to open. It only has four screws to
remove to get the top shell off. There are two screws at the base of
two long tubes on either side of the paper chute at the rear. The other
two screws are visible when you open the "lid" of the printer and they
are to either side of the front ledge that is revealed upon opening the lid.

Then lift the top portion of the printer case off the printer avoiding
the paper chute as you pull up and slightly toward the rear.

After that use the same basic procedure as mentioned in my previous posting.

Don't force anything while trying to remove the top. If it doesn't come
off easily, something isn't correct, ask more questions.

Thanks to all for the advice... the first need was a good vacuum
cleaner, which I have since aquired.. and the printer is now running
fine..

I appreciate the help!
